Stress About Not Getting Pregnant

Stress About Not Getting Pregnant

Whether or not stress plays some role in helping you get pregnant is not clearly defined. There’s a possibility that it might, but then again, you being stressed out over the fact that you are having difficulty getting pregnant may in itself be a great stress on you. So you are a bit concerned and as you express you fears to friends and family, they are obviously going to tell to ‘cool it’ and relax – What they are probably telling you is that all the stress that you are putting yourself in is not doing you any good anyway. Right? The funny thing is, that ‘family advise’ in itself might be the very stress factor that’s preventing you from getting pregnant.

It is evident that stress play a part by affecting your brain, especially that area called the hypothalamus which in turn regulates the hormones required for the release of your eggs. Thus it can be said that since stress play a role by affecting your hormones, you might end up with changes in your menstrual cycle resulting in you ovulating later than usual, and on some occasions not at all. This is referred to as stress-induced anovulation.

With the lifestyle we lead these days, we have become accoustomed to the ‘dad to day’ routines and our body adjusts accordingly. Now this may not be the case with everyone, but anything that throws you off  balance like a traumatic experencience or even a very hectic and sudden change in your routine like an unscheduled business trip or probably as in Khole’s case, that family pressure can cause havoc to your cycle resulting in delayed ovulation.

To explain it simply, your ovary releases an egg which will then be fertilized by your partner’s sperm during intercourse. To get pregnant, your goal will be to ensure that the egg gets fertilized by the sperm. Ovulation normally takes place 14 days after the start of your menstrual cycle. You can best calculate the time of ovulation by knowing the length of your luteal phase.

Knowing this information is crucial if you are planning to conceive because of the small window of time each month during which you are most fertile. This usually is two or three days before you ovulate and about 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. The luteal phase is the second half of your menstrual cycle, when fertilization and implantation may occur. Usually, the length of the luteal phase lasts for between 10 and 16 days and is quite consistent from cycle to cycle, averaging for most women at 14 days. Ovulation can be affected by many factors, such as stress, your diet, if you are suffering from any illness and an increase in physical activity.
